The Best Mixtapes of 2016 (so far)

2016 has been a wonderful year for hip-hop music! From Lil Yachty to 21 Savage, fans have been given a heaping helping of new music to consume, and the stream of new releases doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Below we have listed 12 of our favorite mixtapes to drop so far this year. Check them out and let us know what you think in the comment section below.

Lil Yachty, Summer Songs 2, Quality Control Music
Lil Yachty – Summer Songs 2

Summer Songs 2, the follow up to Lil Yachty‘s debut mixtape Lil Boat, was an easier to digest version of its predecessor, but just as exciting to listen to. Yachty included plenty of the melodic ballads that he is known for, but also peppered in a series of banging freestyles that showcased his lyrical ability. Constant collaborator Burberry Perry was the true star here, with his stellar production lifting Yachty’s talent to new heights.

the perfect luv tape
Lil Uzi Vert – The Perfect Luv Tape

The Perfect Luv Tape, the follow up to 2015 mixtape Luv Is Rage, is everything a Lil Uzi Vert fan could’ve asked for. Great production, awesome features and most importantly: Lil Uzi’s weird and eccentric skills on the microphone.

Tracks: 10
Features: Future, Playboi Carti & Offset

ILoveMakonnen, Red Trap Dragon, Danny Wolf, Atlanta
ILOVEMAKONNEN – Red Trap Dragon

ILoveMakonnen has always been a fun artist to bump. His beat choice and melodies make for an exhilarating & trippy experience. However, Makonnen makes an exciting change of course in his latest mixtape, Red Trap Dragon, by trading in his usual auto-tuned marble mouthed flow for a more aggressive approach over the impressive production of Danny Wolf.

Tracks: 9
Features: Lil Yachty, Skippa Da Flippa

21 Savage, Savage Mode, Trap Music, Metro Boomin,
21 Savage – Savage Mode

21 Savage recruits Metro Boomin for his best work yet.

21 Savage has always been at his best when given a hard hitting trap beat, but Metro Boomin does him one better by combining trap with haunting synths to create an eery atmosphere that one could only achieve with Metro Boomin and 21 Savage on the same track.

Tracks: 9
Features: Future
