Tyler, The Creator’s new album Scumfuck Flower Boy leaked late last night, and to the surprise of many, he references the fact that he is gay numerous times throughout the album. Here are some of the lyrics:
“Next line will have ’em like ‘Whoa’ / I been kissing white boys since 2004”
“All my friends was lost / They couldn’t read the signs / I didn’t want to talk / I tell ’em my location and they ain’t want to walk”
“That was real love I was in, Ain’t no reason to pretend”
He also tweeted this two years ago, and I suppose everyone thought it was a joke, but in retrospect it makes a lot of sense:
I TRIED TO COME OUT THE DAMN CLOSET LIKE FOUR DAYS AGO AND NO ONE CARED HAHAHHAHAHA

It’s 2017, so it’s not like it really matters what somebody’s sexual orientation is, but it always is it a bit shocking when a rapper in a genre that is so obsessed with masculinity is comfortable coming out of the closet, especially in the context of an album. What are your thoughts?
